Mom Tip Tuesday: Oh how sweet-Valentines Day Cookie Decorating

Advertisements

Hey Winefam, welcome back to your Mom Tip Tuesday! Check out last week’s tip here. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, what better way to celebrate than indulging in some sweet treats with your little ones? Today, we’re diving into the world of decorating Valentine’s Day cookies – a perfect activity that combines creativity, bonding, and sweets.

Baked in this Together

First things first, baking cookies from scratch can be a wonderful learning experience for your kids and you. Baking teaches them to follow instructions, measure ingredients, and the science behind baking – all while having a blast. Whether you’re whipping up a classic sugar cookie or a gingerbread recipe, involve your kids in the steps. Let them pour in the sugar, crack the eggs, or stir the batter. Their little faces lighting up as they see the ingredients come together is priceless! My son loves using our stand mixer to make everything from bread to cupcakes.

Getting Creative with Decorations

Set up a decorating station with various icings, sprinkles, edible glitter, and food coloring. Show them how to spread icing with a knife or squeeze it out from a piping bag. They can make hearts, write love messages, or create abstract designs. There’s no right or wrong in creativity, so encourage them to express themselves. Pro tip: I like to slightly warm my icing its easier to work with than cold or right out the box icing.

A Learning Opportunity in Every Sprinkle

Decorating cookies can be more than just a fun activity; it’s a chance to develop fine motor skills, color recognition, and even patience (waiting for the icing to set!). For older kids, challenge them with more intricate designs or teach them how to mix colors to create new ones. You both can google designs and put them on the cookies. It’s amazing how a simple activity like this can pack so much learning.

Too Sweet not to Share

Valentine’s Day is all about spreading love, and what better way than sharing homemade cookies? Encourage your kids to think of people they’d like to gift their cookies to – grandparents, teachers, or neighbors. This teaches them the joy of giving and how their efforts can bring happiness to others.

Creating Lasting Memories

At the end of the day Winefam, what truly matters are the memories you create together. Taking photos of your cookie creations, sharing laughs over a frosting mishap, or simply enjoying the cookies with a glass of milk(or Riesling for you) – these are the moments that count. Years later, it won’t just be the cookies they remember, but the warmth and love of spending time with you.

Final Thoughts

Decorating Valentine’s Day cookies with your kids is more than cookies; it’s about bonding, learning, and making memories. So, embrace the organized chaos, savor the sweetness, and most importantly, enjoy the time spent with your little ones. If baking isn’t your thing pick up a premade kit from your local bakery or grocery store. Happy Valentine’s Day! May your wine or your coffee be stronger than your kids, and your day filled with love, laughter, and lots of delicious cookies! Happy Valentines day🍪❤️👩‍👧‍👦
